Welcome to the Salt & Vinegar Chips website. Our mission is to gather information on as many brands of salt and vinegar (aka S&V’s) chips as we can and provide an all-in-one/one-stop location for learning all there is to know about salt and vinegar chips.
Our highly experienced group of S&V taste testers will taste as many brands as we can and post the reviews to help find the best bag for you.
If you are a manufacturer of potato chips and have your own version of Salt and Vinegar chips and would like us to review your brand, please feel free to send us a sample, preferably three to five bags (one for each of our testers). After receiving your S&V’s, we will each provide a rating as well as link to your website. Click for shipping information.

I can’t even find any brands of salt & vinegar chips in my area. I grew up with them all my life and love them to death, but since I moved to the midwest about 2 years ago, I cannot find them anywhere. Is there any place online that I can order a case or something like that?
February 5th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
Jake, we ordered a case of S&Vs from Better Made Chips and they were pretty good. http://www.bettermadesnackfoods.com/
There are a number of companies that will ship there S&Vs to you but this is the only one we have ordered from.

All these years I thought I was alone…calling them S&V’s…on a crusade to find the best salt and vinegar chip.
What are your results?
Here are mine: I first discovered S&V’s while in college upstate NY about ten years ago. The brand? Utz. Utz makes the finest salt and vinegar chip you will find.
Over the years, I slowly weened myself off S&V’s, but recently have become hooked again. A very good, a relatively healthy brand I have found is Dirty Potato Chips.
And the not so good: Wise, Lays (both too greasy) and Pringles (not enough vinegar)
Thanks for sharing.

My friend and I just bought 9 different bags of S&Vs, for a taste test. I can’t believe you’ve already done all the work for us! I guess we’ll just have to have our own test and see if we agree. Anyway, good work. - Your brother, Tony Chips

Born and bred in Southeastern PA, I have a fetish for Salt and Vinegar chips. You might call it a sickness. To every place I travel, every city, every supermarket, every convenience store, I am out on the prowl for all things s&v.
All time s&v chips:
1) Herr’s S&v — the tangiest s@v chip on earth! My mouth burns after eating an ounce of these lil buggers!
Bag after bag.. I would say that 2 bags out of 10 are duds ! Hold a chip up to a light and you really see the sour powdery goodness.

http://www.herrsstore.com/savi55ozba.html
and then there was……..
Herrs sea salt &v
too salty— sometimes too oily — and sometimes just right !
http://www.herrsstore.com/hebosavikeco.html
2) Cape Cod — very nice chip– although tanginess varies from bag to bag —not too greasy– coarse sea salt — yum !
http://www.capecodchips.com/
3) UTZ— geez… this company must be the top S&V manufacturer in regards to variety. They have 5 s&v brands from 8-9 potato chip product lines !!!
the Regz are ok — thin & crispy — subtle flavor– I’d recommend these to a S@V virgin/n00b.
utz mystic line — best s&v chip in their line; ties Cape Cod for the top sea salt and vinegar chip award.
malt vinegar and salt– ehhh.. not the best –some bags are sickeningly sweet. more lactose then sodium acetate.
as for the others have not been able to snag a bag.

4) Good’s Chips — a very naughty thick styled chip soaked in lard !!! the seasoning is average but it is a very crunchy and hearty chip !
http://www.goodschips.com/
5) Dirty’s — While traveling in and around Boston, MA. I located these gems in a sammich joint. Very Nice.. boiled in a tasty peanut oil bath w/above average taste and flavor. Sigh, I only had one bag and do not know of any distributor in my area,

6) Charlie Chip— my first exposure to s&v — got a little taste of these guys way back when I was a wee lil lad .. haven’t looked back since. (can anyone find a link???)
7) Martin chips —
strange flavor– more sweet then sour — thick cut
http://www.taquitos.net/snacks.php?snack_code=251
8)lay’s — another chip chain w/ multiple offerings:
a) Regz are just average. I’ll buy if no other s&v brands are available.
http://www.fritolay.com/fl/flstore/cgi-bin/Nutrition_ProdID_3003.htm
b) haven’t seeen these around
http://www.fritolay.com/fl/flstore/cgi-bin/Nutrition_ProdID_365054.htm
c) I like these better than then Regz but they are dead last in kettle land.
http://www.fritolay.com/fl/flstore/cgi-bin/Nutrition_ProdID_3016.htm
9) Pringles — strange chip — strange flavor. I have a small affection for these. But I don’t recommend for a discriminating s&v connoisseur.
10) miss vickies — bought by lays” manufatured in Canada— different then lays kettle — but not any better
http://www.taquitos.net/snacks.php?snack_code=450
11)lance s&v — bought on a whim — very salty — thin chip— a more white vinegar taste. Would liek to try again.
12) Wise — sucks… even for 99 cents. substandard potatoes— salty seasoning– and the grease bath…. what do they use — turkey crisco?????
***************** on the lookout ********
1) Kettle Chips— promotes the enviornment
http://www.kettlefoods.com/our-all-natural-products/chips
2) and Better made chips
Later…. my sour compadres’

There is no better brand than Utz. Nothing will ever change my opinion (unless they come out with a cheaper brand that tastes EXACTLY the same) because they are a little pricey, but most DEF. worth it!!!

The best Salt and Vinegar chip is made in a small town called Mansfield, OH by Jone’s. (www.joneschips.com) A wavy chip with lots of bite. Another good one from central Ohio is Conn’s (www.connspotatochips.com).
